PT Patria Maritim Perkasa has built Patria 22 at its shipyard in Batam for PT Patria Maritime Lines, which is expanding its barge operations in Indonesia.
It was built to an OSD-IMT7402 design as the first of three similar vessels and is en route to begin operations in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.
Patria 22 and its sister tugs will support barge operations in the Barito River. They will tow, push, berth and undock 91.4-m barges in water depths as low as 2.5-3 m. Because of the shallow waters of the river in the dry season, these tugs were designed with draughts below 2 m.
Patria 22 has an overall length of 23 m and accommodation for 10 people, arranged in two quadruple and two single cabins.
It has two main diesel engines, each developing 618 kW of power. These drive conventional fixed propellers with high efficiency nozzles. This configuration provides Patria 22 with an ahead bollard pull of 20 tonnes and a free running speed of around 12 knots. This tug is Indonesian flagged and classed by Bureau Veritas.
PT Patria Maritim Perkasa is a subsidiary of PT United Tractors Pandu Engineering and operates a shipyard in Batam, Indonesia. PT Patria Maritime Lines is based in East Jakarta, Indonesia.
There has been a resurgence in tug newbuilding orders and construction in Indonesia as owners seek to renew their ageing fleets.
The latest orders noted by BRL Shipping Consultants were for three 222-gt tugs. These were ordered from PT Alusteel Engineering’s shipyard for delivery in Q1 2021 with an overall length of 27 m, beam of 8.2 m and draught of 3.2 m. Mitsubishi will deliver six of its S6R2-MTK3L main engines, two each, for these tugs. Each engine will produce 760 kW of power at 1,400 rpm.
Other Indonesian shipyards are building harbour tugs for domestic ports and for export orders with deliveries scheduled for Q4 2020 and 2021.
